How to torrent safely (without getting viruses or malware)?
Hi everyone, I am new to the torrent scene. My question is how to torrent on a Windows machine (I have computers with Windows 7 and 8.1) with the least risk possible of getting a virus or malware on my computer. This entails a number of subquestions I have despite doing hours of research:
(1) What is the best antivirus software to torrent safely? I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 2015. Is this sufficient or should I get something else?
(2) Is it possible to stay completely safe if you never open a torrented file without directing your antivirus software to scan that file, or is it still possible for a malicious file to harm your computer automatically once you start torrenting the file, or for a torrented file to harm your computer even if you never open the file?
(3) My brother suggested attaching a cheap USB drive to the computer and direct the torrent client to save the torrented file to the USB drive, and then scan the file with antivirus software while it’s still on the USB drive before transferring it to the computer, and that way, if you do torrent a malicious file, it would only harm your USB drive and not harm the computer. Is this true? Would anyone recommend doing this?
(4) Do you have any other advice for safe torrenting?
